Imagine... Imagine that you have just suffered a massive heart attack which has put you out of your daily routine for several months. Imagine that because of this you are losing your house because you are behind on mortgage payments as well as many other bills. Now imagine that as a veteran who has served your country with honor, you cannot get any assistance from anyone to help you overcome what you are facing and prevent you from losing everything you have. Who do you turn to? What are you going to do when you lose everything? How will you be able to provide for your family? This is just one of many examples of life that veterans as members of our community face on a daily basis, and it was because of a situation similar to this that VTEAP formed; to help our service veterans in a time of need, a time of crisis and a time when they need help the most and everyone else has turned them down. There is a growing need in our community for assistance to our veterans and their families in times of hardship and misfortune. The Veterans Temporary Emergency Assistance Program was formed due to an increase in demands for emergency assistance from our local veteran community. VTEAP - What/Who is it? VTEAP (Veterans Temporary Emergency Assistance Program) was officially formed under the Great State of Tennessee, Division of Charitable Solicitations: 26 USC 501(c)(3) status in March 2005. We are a non-profit organization designed as a last resort to help veterans in our community and their families when all hope is lost and help is needed the most. We are limited to the help we provide only by the donations we receive from the local community. As much as we would like to help each and every veteran, sometimes our funds are so limited that we have no choice but to send them away empty handed. Grants will only be approved after all efforts to obtain local public aid have been exhausted and we have verified that the applicant has a justifiable crisis situation. VTEAP is completely subsidized by donations and pledges from our local community, local businesses and volunteer organizations. As a member of our community, and with your help, together we can make a difference to more veterans and not have to send as many away with no assistance provided. 99% of all donations go right back into the community through the form of assistance for those who need it, and we do not require that any grant given be paid back. Our staff is made up of 100% volunteers and each one is a veteran themselves. We do offer a membership for anyone in the community to be a part of our organization, to participate in meetings, share ideas to help VTEAP grow, and assist with our purpose. Membership is open to anyone, however to obtain a position on the Board of Trustees you must be active duty, reserve or a veteran. Purpose for VTEAP The VTEAP program has been designed as a "catch all." Most veterans groups and federal programs have protocols that eliminate many individuals from much needed aid. VTEAP does have guidelines, but is a LAST RESORT option for temporary assistance. What is Temporary Assistance? Temporary Financial Assistance is controlled monetary aid, granted for a short term to facilitate human necessities. Grants are awarded, as adjudicated to meet immediate maintenance and/or health needs of the applicant/familiy until public aid programs have had sufficient due process time or the applicants have had reasonable opportunity to locate or develop resources necessary to meet the full extent of the need. This program is NOT intended as a debt relief or credit solution option. Under no circumstances does this program release or assume responsibility for the applicants credit or debt obligations. All applications and required supporting documents will be investigated and validated prior to review by the VTEAP Board of Trustees for approval. Each case will be reviewed individually and decided on individually based on the application and supporting documentation. If the applicant is approved, and monetary aid granted, the amount will be made payable to the creditor not the applicant. |
